Hydration is so important in the Ketogenic / Low Carb diet and overall health.
One of the most common mistakes in any diet but especially low carb/ keto diet is not hydrating enough — it has to do with not enough WATER!
Many people do not realize how much water you need on a low carb diet / ketogenic diet. Carbohydrates help your body hold onto water and sodium, so you naturally retain less fluid on a ketogenic diet.
So what is the best way to stay hydrated? Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces or more if your active. Aim for 12 cups of water and get plenty of salt.
If you don’t get enough water on keto, you’ll get dehydrated quickly — this, combined with electrolyte loss, is why many people experience fatigue, dry mouth, and other flu-like symptoms as they transition into it.
This is called “keto flu”.
Luckily, the solution is simple: Drink more! Aim for 12-16 cups of fluid per day, either in the form of plain water or other low carb drinks like La Croix, Keto Kreme coffee, herbal tea, etc…. Drink extra water if any of your drinks contain caffeine, because they can dehydrate you.
Plus, make sure you replenish your electrolytes with Mitoplex as your body naturally flushes them out on keto.
You can easily keep your electrolytes stable by salting your food liberally, eating pickled vegetables, and enjoying bone broth frequently. A great way to resolve this is the take Mitoplex electrolytes daily this will help you get enough and avoid symptoms of the the “keto flu”.
